This scripture refers to how an animal can get caught in a trap that snaps down on his foot and holds him captive until hunters find him. We have plenty of traps in our lives and society in general lying in wait for us to trip over them. With the Lord at our side, as is promised in this scripture, we can avoid the trap of greed causing us to focus on accumulating wealth. We can avoid the trap of substance abuse ruining our lives. With God at our side, the trap of lust won't snap down on us and ruin our relationships. The trap of entertainment won't distract us from our work, our studies, and most important, God Himself. If we rely on ourselves, we are very vulnerable to one or more of those traps. Fortunately, we have a better guide through life--our Lord.
