Encouraging Scripture-Don't underestimate God

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory
Ephesians 3:20-21a (ESV) from Bible Gateway

I suspect if we tallied it up, most of us have been more often disappointed by someone than we have pleasantly surprised by the impact they have made in our lives.  Whether it's reliability, interest, technical ability, or just being there, people just have a way of letting you down more often than not.  As we go through our lives and learn this painful lesson, we can easily slip into the habit of thinking the same of our Lord.  We lower the bar, doubting how interested He is, whether we can actually count on Him, and if He truly can do all the things the Bible says He can.  We are reminded in Ephesians 3 that He can do far more than we ask or think.  He is not a human with a sinful nature--He is our omnipotent God who loves us!  Of course he can do [fill in the blank].  Of course He cares.  Of course He is always there for us.  He's not your spouse who has hurt you, your child who has drifted away, or your boss who doesn't appreciate you.  Let's be vigilant about not lumping God in with that motley group.  The power at work within us is what can get us through being disappointed by others and still having the hope of better things to come; the promises that God Himself has made to us.
