Encouraging Scripture-True beauty is more than skin deep

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV) from Bible Gateway

As you've been Christmas shopping this year, there's a good chance you've been inundated with society's view of beauty.  For women, it's being thin with expensive clothes, makeup, and jewelry.  For men, it's being buff and muscular with expensive clothes and jewelry.  Companies have invested a lot of effort and money into convincing you to buy their products in order to achieve that and not be perceived a failure.  I sure am glad that's now how God views me, and He doesn't view you that way either.  Notice that the Lord doesn't say there's anything wrong with looking good, but He's a lot more concerned with what's in your heart.  Are you focused on showing love and kindness instead of concentrating on your selfish interests?  That might not make retailers happy, but I can't think of anything better than bringing a smile to my Lord's face.  Our clothes and accessories won't do that, but purity in our hearts will.
