Encouraging Scripture-What do we love?

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
1 John 2:15 (NIV) from Bible Gateway

Scripture is all about love, but what or who do we love?  If it's power, wealth, material possessions, or partying, we've loving the world.  The problem with that is the world does not love us back.  Worldly pleasures are Satan's domain, and he wants to make them as attractive as possible to keep us away from fellowship with God.  If we love our spouse, family, and friends, if we love helping someone who is in no position to return the favor, if we love telling people about our Lord and Savior, then we're loving the way God wants us to, and He will bless it.  The world encourages us to love ourselves, but God taught us to love others as ourselves, then showed us when Jesus died to redeem you and me from our sins.  What do we love, the short-term gratification that the world can offer, or the everlasting, selfless love of our Lord.  It's a choice we need to make every single day, and if you haven't ever done that today would be a great time to start.
