Encouraging Scripture-See out the good stuff

The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.
Proverbs 18:15 (NIV) from Bible Gateway

Becoming a Christian does not mean turning your mind off.  Reality is just the opposite.  Understanding the Bible and how God wants us to live a life that reflects Jesus is hard.  The more effort we put into study and prayer, the more we will understand of His ways and the better we will be able to demonstrate that to others.  A key word in this scripture is discerning.  As we study and sit under the teaching of others, we need to be very discerning about what we read and who we trust to speak into our lives.  There are a lot of people writing books and teaching that veer far off from the Bible and the way of life that Jesus died for.  We can't just throw up our hands and not trust anyone, we need to ask the Lord to guide us to the right books, the right speakers, and show us when something does not line up with His word and who He is.  He will bless those who seek Him out and provide the teaching we seek.
