Encouraging Scripture-Cut through the fluff

Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.
Proverbs 23:12 (NIV) from Bible Gateway

We can easily be overwhelmed by information today, especially through the device you are using to read this-you computer, IPad, or smart phone.  There's a lot of interesting stuff out there that just wasn't available a generation ago.  So much of it, in fact, that I believe it is harder to sift through it to focus on what is truly important to our lives.  We can get so caught up in the sports scores or the latest celebrity gossip that we don't take time to develop the gifts that God gave us, and we don't take advantage of the many available resources to learn about Him.  That's why we need to apply our heart to instruction.  We have to intentionally seek out what God wants us to know, either hearing it directly through Him or being directed to a resource by the Holy Spirit.  That's where he will bless us and move our lives along the path he has laid out for us, and if we are really seeking that out, He will guide us through all the fluff and distractions to make sure we find Him along the Information Superhighway.
