Encouraging Scripture-Forgive and be forgiven

Forgiving can be a very hard thing to do.  I don't mean the cursory "I forgive you," we may say to someone, I mean to really, really forgive them in your heart.  That's where God looks.  He doesn't check transcripts of what you've said and done, He looks inside of you to see what you really believe.  If you harbor unforgiveness, Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount that He would withhold forgiveness from you.  That's very heavy folks and a place we don't want to be.  Some of you have been very deeply hurt, wounded, and abused in your lives, but remember what Jesus went through so you could receive God's forgiveness.  What we have to deal with to forgive someone is not as tough by comparison.  The peace and the feeling of the weight lifted from us is so worth it!

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV) from Bible Gateway
