Encouraging Scripture-God wants to save us, not condemn us

Far too many preachers stand behind a pulpit and tries to scare people into heaven by threatening them with the wrath and condemnation of God if they don't give up their sinful ways.  That bothers me because it makes God sound like this angry parent who is just waiting for us to slip up so he can lower the boom on us.  That's NOT why He sent Jesus to earth.  He sent Jesus to save us through His death.  If God wanted to condemn us, He didn't need to go to all that trouble to have His son crucified--He could have just left us alone and we would have stumbled into that state easily enough ourselves.  No, God gave us Jesus to save us through His sacrifice, NOT to condemn us.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

  1. absolutely TRUE! :) ....unfortunately for us, it is US that condemn ourselves, in our sin, our arrogance, pride and disbelief.
