Encouraging Stories-Travelling preacher on walk across country

Greg Benner might be nuts. Or just another prophet of God. Maybe he's both.

To decide for yourself, you will need to walk a mile or two with him. But take heed - he walks a lot.

The 54-year-old Yakima, Wash. resident and Christian preacher is trekking across the country to inspire folks to follow their dreams, and to encourage churches to minister more effectively to the downtrodden.

His adventure to Jacksonville, Fla. started in Santa Monica. It led him last week into the Inland Empire.

On Thursday he walked through Mentone and into Yucaipa, where he took time out to talk under a burning November sun about following Christ and influencing people.

"There needs to be more cigarette butts and beer bottles and stuff laying out in parking lots of churches, because that means the people that need help are coming," he said. "And if we're not seeing that stuff and everything is all pristine, then it's because we've made ourselves unapproachable."
