Entertainers, politicians, and business leaders eventually find out how fickle public opinion is. When it turns against them, many time they are devastated. That's because they are drawing their affirmation, their strength, from the wrong source. David faced that kind of situation when the families of his soldiers had been captured. The troops didn't take that too well and held David responsible. When the opinion of others soured on David, he knew where to turn--directly to the Lord, who gave him the strength to get back up and lead his troops in a successful raid to rescue their families. People will turn on you--that's when you can turn to the Lord and gain a new strength in Him and from Him.
David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
